D1 Grand Prix 2009: Champion

So, the winner of the 2009 D1 Grand Prix series is Yoichi Imamura.

To be honest, I was hoping that Tezuka would have won it, since he’s been driving so consistently well for the past few years, or at least Nomuken, since he deserves to win it by now.

There’s always next year.

Is Imamura the only 2 time champion in D1?

I agree… I wanted someone different to win it so it would continue to be someone different each year. I like Youichi’s personality though! He seems like a nice guy. Congrats Youichi!

I guess if Tezuka or Nomuken actually qualified for round 8 they would’ve had a chance!

I must say when I was at round 5 and 6 Tezuka was driving awesome!

The looks on Nomuken’s face says it all doesn’t it?
So close and yet so far for both him and Tezuka. But still, looking at past results Imamura certainly has been far more consistent than any other driver in D1. So I guess his 2nd championship title is no fluke. With that said, how did Nomuken and Tezuka didn’t manage to qualify anyhow? Were their runs really that bad?

ye imamura is the only guy to win twice ive still got his poster from drift battle up on the wall drift hall of famer for sure now, cant believe nomuken still hasnt won tho

That move to switch to an S15 really paid off. If he were continuing driving that heavy Z33, he would have faded into obscurity like Ryuji Miki or Mitsuru Haruguchi. I also hope that Ryuji Miki would do well the next season in D1! Congrats Youichi!

Kazama won more than twice if my memory is correct!

    Thanks Fury-S12.

I’m probably really late on this, but, I just read that HKS won’t be doing D1GP this year.. 🙁

Congrats Imamura on your 2nd D1 title! From watching his old 2001 AE86 in-car footage, it looked like he was correcting his steering before the AE86 was reacting. Imamura’s got a lot of natural drifting talent.
