QUIET NIGHT: Shibaura Parking Area

8 CommentsCan I officially take credit for making the word “missile” so popular in western drifting circles? I know that the term itself has been around for a long time in Japan, but a quick dated search shows it becoming popular a couple of months after I first used it back in this post.
It’s been a double-edged sword though, because some people think “missile” means “smash into things”.
“I hate missiles. They don’t have any meaning. It’s just playing. You can’t hit people in competitions.” thinks one D1 driver who shall remain nameless.
That said though, drifting is all about fun, and the funnest thing to do is drive as close as possible to other people. I’m a firm believer that smashing a car’s panels should only be done against another car. For example, take a look at Koguchi’s Laurel missile when he first took it out, now take a look at it a year and a half later. Lots and lots of light hits.
18 CommentsYou might have noticed that I haven’t really been doing much driving recently.
I hope to correct this.
28 CommentsHere’s a pic of Tezuka’s Bee-R Skyline from back in 2006. I think this was right at the end of the first practice day.
It still looked so fresh! These days, it’s amazingly haggard up close, but it gets the job done.
The Bee-R mechanics had the rev-limiter set on full shotgun mode that day, and thanks to the bowl shape of the valley that Sugo Speedway’s first corner is in, you could always tell when Tezuka was out on the track. Kablam!
13 CommentsIn the week following the Tokyo Auto Salon, I worked as a driver, translator and phone-call-making guy for the Autosalon magazine guys as they toured and reported on a bunch of workshops and aftermarket parts factories.
The one that stands out most to me was the final one we visited: Mine’s.
Here’s another car that was parked at Fuji Speedway recently, nicely slammed on some Blitz 03 wheels. It’s the Drift Tengoku project GT-R that belongs to the editor, Ryuusuke Kawasaki.
For those that follow Doriten, the legendary pink and white JZX90 Chaser has finally run out of registration, so they’re moving on to a JZX100 Cresta kouki. I can’t wait to see that!
Kawasaki-san told me that he regularly reads Noriyaro, and reckons the photography is cool. Not bad eh?
これはドリ天の編集長川崎さんのGT-Rです。シ~ブイ!じゃ、ドリ天のJZX100クレスタを早くメイクしてね、川崎さん!

12 CommentsSkyline maintainence time! I noticed the front brake pads were looking a bit thin, and since there are quite a few events coming up, I thought it would be a good idea to change them.
Also, why is there an Emotion CR-Kai sitting there, test fitted on the back? Oh, I’ll never tell!
