SOME STUFF: Not really a proper post, but it does have pictures

I haven’t really been making a lot of posts recently, and that’s because I haven’t really been taking a lot of photos! I’ve done quite a few events in the JZX100 recently, like a competition run by Rays Wheels, and the Dunlop Drift Grand Prix at Nikko Circuit. Despite only making the semi-finals, it was probably my best effort at Nikko so far, with every single one of my runs being fast, on-line and with plenty of angle. The only thing wrong according to the judge of the event, D1 driver Yoshinori Koguchi, was that the flick on my entry wasn’t fast enough. That was good with me, since that’s exactly what I thought was weak about them too. Time for some practice and suspension fiddling.

Anyway, I’m sort of glad I bought a mobile phone with a decent camera (DoCoMo F906, if anyone wanted to know), since it means I don’t have to carry around a proper camera. At the same time, it’s bad, since I end up taking a lot of photos that I really should have taken with a proper camera, like these ones.

Today, I dragged some Australians, who are here to drive at Ebisu’s Drift Matsuri, around Tokyo to see some car-related things. One stop was at the Toyota MegaWeb, where they have the new FT-86 lined up against a mint red Levin. I didn’t make enough time to go and actually visit the Tokyo Motor Show, so this was the first time I saw the car in real life.

I must say, it looks a lot better in real life than it does in photos. It actually looks like it could be a really cool drift car. I’d drive one for sure.

A new exhibit in the Toyota History Garage, a short walk from the MegaWeb, is this Tofu-ten AE86.

It’s done up in the same spec as in the beginning of the manga, complete with paper cup.

The mudflaps were absolutely mint. Didn’t the real car in the manga have over 300,000km on it by the time Takumi inherited it?

I snapped this the other night driving out of a local 7-11. A mint Bluebird two-door, complete with steel wheels.

I like the “510” plate too.

This Mark II was in the parking lot, which was actually the main straight of Nishi Course, at last weekend’s D1 Street Legal. It’s ridiculous how easy it is to make a car from the 80’s look with just a set of wheels and some springs and dampers.

Make sure you check the website by the end of the week, since I’m going to be running a little competition to win some D1 memorabilia. Of course, I’m not going to make it easy to win, but the prize is pretty good, I reckon!

‘FT86 looks sweet, too bad about the wonky boxer engine. inline4 is what it needs.

Can’t wait for the competition. I’ll be sure to enter!!!

Fujiwara Tofu Shop AE86, is just so cool. The new Toyota’s compact fr car is very eye catching, but i think the rims are to big.

is prize-winning open to canucks? 😀

whenever it is that i end up getting off of my lazy ass and making a trip across the pacific, MegaWeb is on the top of my list of things to do/see (along with a Daikoku-futo meet)

  • Nick Teeboon says:

I think you need to find out what engine the FT-86 really has in. I shall be dissapointed if it is a boxer.
I’ll tell Brad that he should steal one and do a proper skid in it. (Brad from New Zealand)

the beauty about japanese technology is that they get all the good stuff before we do…they had a nice camera-phone i wanted a couple of years back that was a 10-12 mp camera and that is just being released this year in the states.

i really love that old school mark II…

…is that red car next to the hachi in the first photo that new rwd car that toyota (i believed partnered w/ subaru…i may be wrong) is supposed to be releasing sometime soon (QQ scion tag in the states, even though my daily is one)… i would have loved to see the rebirth of the rwd corolla.
