YOU DRIFT LIKE A GIRL: Nikko Queen 2009
April 20, 2009 12:30 amI’m not going to bother doing a big event report on this year’s Nikko Queen event, since a lot of the stuff I shot would be more fun as part of a few mini-features, so look forward to those.
Just to get the formalities out of the way though, here are the ladies who placed in the Expert Class competition!
First Place was Akari Nagasawa. It’s rare to see anyone drive Nikko Circuit’s first corner as neatly and consistently as she did all day. A quick flick in, stomp on the brakes to settle the car and full acceleration right out wide towards the judging stand with not a single bit of visible handbrake correction.
I have something new to try next time I drive at Nikko, I think…
Keep in mind, her boyfriend is D1 Street Legal driver Hideyuki Fujino, so you can imagine the sort of conversations that go on between those two.
Second Place was Rie Shinmi, who drove her Kids Heart-supported R34 GT-t four-door up from Nagoya early that morning to compete.
Actually, it’s more like Tsuyoshi Tezuka drove her car on the back of a loader up from Nagoya early that morning. More about this and Michiko’s S14 in another post.
Third was Naoko Matsumoto, a local girl with a ridiculously cute pink helmet and ridiculously late braking technique.
Yeah, they can kick your arse at drifting.

IMO mini features are better than the large reports seen on Speedhunters. 😉
BTW: are you still affiliated with them or was it a JR feature only?
yeah mini features get me through the day
That first S13 is exceptionally clean.
Nice coverage as always, even in these mini features.
ill marry one of those girls lol
I wis I could meet a girl like that.
The Silvia driver’s throws have to be seen to be believed.
She’d wipe the floor with many (actually most) DA drivers.
Aleix, I believe that wallpaper of that champagne s13 is in order…
Somehow I have a soft spot for Akari’s S13. Is it running a Desmond Evo Regamaster wheels? Looks like it though, and it looks nice on that S13.
Do my eyes deceive me or do I see Hotroad aero on that 180?
How does stomping on the brakes settle the car? (genuine question)
@zamildrift
Yep, Regamasters.
@J..
It sort of stops the car from rotating too far after you initiate heavily, and makes it go in a straight line towards the judges, which is what looks good at Nikko. Once you release the brakes, the car starts turning again. I’ll try and find a video…
@Alexi
Do you mean not gain grip but to understeer by locking the brakes?
