FINAL ROUND: D1GP at Fuji

Dragging a two-day event out into an entire week’s worth of content might be pushing it a bit, so here’s the final coverage of the final round.

Tezuka managed to get really close to Hibino on his chase run, but a heavy understeer at the first corner knocked him out in the top 16.

Nomuken speed was overshadowed by Ueno’s big first corner angle and aggressive switchback flick on his chase run.

Masashi Yokoi was on fire all weekend, making it into the top sixteen before being absolutely dominated by Daigo Saito, even after pulling off an awesome run with angle like this.

Samurai and Youichi Imamura were going to go into a sudden death round, but Samurai’s freshly nitroused motor gave up.

Suenaga knows how to brake.

He knows how to do this as well.

The Kumakubo and Hibino battle gave Sprinter fans something to cheer about.

That was until Hibino’s tailshaft broke and retired him from the round.

This is why Daigo Saito did so well this year.

Koguchi gave it everything he had, but Suenaga kept it neat the whole time.

The Suenaga vs. Saito battle looked like it was going to be the best of the day, until…

…Daigo’s gearbox behind the 1000ps 2JZ engine gave up at completely the wrong time. It didn’t really matter for him though, since after making it this far, he had the championship sewed up.

That left the final to be run between Suenaga and Kumakubo.

Reckon Go Go Daijiro might have had a late night?

Nobody ever looks cool in a post race interview, unless they are German F1 drivers or insane Italian motorcycle riders.

That’s it for 2008!
