AUTOMATIC-CENTRIC: 2010 2PD Meeting, Part IPosted by Alexi in Events イベント, tags: automatic drift, Chaser, Cima, Cresta, JZX100, JZX90, Mark II
Even though I’m more of a clutch man myself, I headed out to Fuji Speedway’s Drift Circuit recently for the annual “2PD” meeting, which is open only to slushbox drifters!

THESE CRESTAS ARE MAKING ME THIRSTY: Pocari-spec GX71Posted by Alexi in Nostalgic ノスタルジック, tags: Cresta, GX71, Yansha
It seems a lot of you really seemed to like the Yaruki Mate! Cresta drifter from the other day, so I dug this one out of the archives of a drift event at Fuji Speedway from a few years ago. A nice GX71 with widened steelies, bolt-on overfenders, Hakosuka tail and fake oil cooler finished off in Pocari Sweat blue! Maniacs might notice that this one is the zenki model with the SOHC 1G-E and seperate quad headlights, rather than the integrated quads seen on the kouki model in the previous post.

FOUR DOORS, LOUD SIX: Yaruki Mate! GX71 CrestaPosted by Alexi in Nostalgic ノスタルジック, tags: Cresta, Fuji Speedway, GX71, Himawari Racing, Toyota, Yansha
So, the last several posts were all about girl drifters. Let’s move onto the most manly thing we can find: a four-door Toyota kyusha.

AUTO SALON WEEK IS OVER: Here are some not very nice picturesPosted by Alexi in Crash クラッシュ, tags: Cresta, JZX100, Okegawa Sports Land, Toyota
The 2010 Tokyo Auto Salon week is over. I’ve spent the last week with the Autosalon magazine guys from Australia, as well as the tour group they brought with them. To see a bit of what we got up to, have a look at Charles Kha’s blog and photographer Mark Pakula’s blog. So why am I posting pics of a mashed-up Cresta instead of some pics I took? A couple of days ago, there was an Ikaten competition at Okegawa Sports Land held by Drift Tengoku video. Okegawa is actually the closest circuit to my house, so of course I sent in an entry to appear in the segment. Unfortunately, there are a hell of a lot of drivers and teams in my local area, and I would have had to work anyway. Never mind. 桶川スポーツランドのイカ天です。写真はMISSILEの宮本さんが撮った。

FOR PRACTICE USE ONLY: Winds Auto, Fluke and TS Factory missilesPosted by Alexi in Feature Cars 車の取材, tags: 180SX, Cresta, Fluke, Hiroshi Fukuda, JZX90, Kimihiro Obata, missile, Nikko Circuit, Nissan, Shunichi Tomikuda, Skyline, T's Factory, Toyota, Winds Auto
Practicing close drifting inevitably results in damage. Repainting and restickering panels costs money, as does replacing suspension parts, and extra usage of a stressed race engine will only shorten its lifespan. What’s the best way for a high-level driver to get in some practice without the equally high repair bills? Drift a missile!

PEER PRESSURE: Closer to the wall please, Mr JZX81Posted by Alexi in Crash クラッシュ, Random その他, Video ビデオ, tags: Cresta, JZX81, video
This JZX81 is actually pretty close to the camera, but the wide-angle lens makes it look further than it is. The following video should give you an idea about how close it was…

YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG: JZX100 missile crash at NikkoPosted by Alexi in Crash クラッシュ, tags: Cresta, Fluke, JZX100, missile, Nikko Circuit, Toyota
Full points awarded here for enthusiastic driving. Heard from the gallery were comments like “90 degree camber might be a bit too much!” I tried making an “88 miles an hour” joke, but it turns out Doc Brown actually said 142km/h in the Japanese version of Back to the Future. I had to say “de rorian taimu mashiinu” before anyone understood. |
