Practicing close drifting inevitably results in damage. Repainting and restickering panels costs money, as does replacing suspension parts, and extra usage of a stressed race engine will only shorten its lifespan.

What’s the best way for a high-level driver to get in some practice without the equally high repair bills?

Drift a missile!

A couple of days ago, some rotary freaks from Belgium sent me an email asking for information about this Mazda Famila, with a photo taken by Ben from Japanese Nostalgic Car attached to it.

“Didn’t I already post a few pics of that car already?” I thought.

Sure enough, I’d posted about the Euro and American cars at the 2009 Time Machine Festival, and I’d definitely posted about the Fairladys that were there, as well as a put up a panorama photo of the meeting, but I’d completely forgotten to upload the rest of the photos I took!

So, here they are!

Here’s the second part of last weekend’s Himawari Racing day at Fuji Speedway.

Last Saturday, I drifted at a Himawari Racing day at Fuji Speedway (or “Doripa” as everyone here refers to it) , which was possibly one of the most “grassrootiest” drift events I’ve ever been to. The group’s leader is a guy called Kazuya who drifts a bright-pink AE86 Trueno coupe, and is in a triple-car team with Tomonori Akai and my housemate Shino Murai, called the “Hachiroku Hentai”. More on that another time.

The weather report had said it supposed to clear up for the afternoon, so rain in the morning was not unexpected. Here’s my other housemate Yoshio “Riichan” Takahashi and I negotiating the streets of Hachioji (cheaper than taking the toll roads) while I enjoy a tuna and mayo onigiri for breakfast.

You didn’t think I was just going to post one day of weird kei car drifting and not follow it up, did you?

I get the feeling some people will lose the plot over this post.

“I’m sick of Silvias and Skylines and AE86s!” they say.

“I want something a bit more unique! Something a bit weirder!” they cry.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you kei truck drifting.

Skyline maintainence time! I noticed the front brake pads were looking a bit thin, and since there are quite a few events coming up, I thought it would be a good idea to change them.

Also, why is there an Emotion CR-Kai sitting there, test fitted on the back? Oh, I’ll never tell!
