NIKKO MSC CHALLENGE RESULTS: Half a point off.

Where’s Wally?

Here’s the result sheet from Beginner Class for the second and third round.

My entry was #125, and you can see it in fifth place on the second round, with “Noriyaro with Shino Kouba” as the team name. When I used a datalogger at some previous Nikko events, my average peak entry speed was about 104km/h, but I had a full tank of fuel that day, so my best speed was 101km/h. I probably should have left it half-full and saved some weight, since I probably burned more gas letting the car cool down in the pits than I did on the track.

The text comment from the second round was “#125 HCR32 Alexi’s drifting was consistently cool and intense”, but the comment from the final round was “After entering the corner, #125 Alexi’s rear wheel fell into the dirt, which was unfortunate for such aggressive driving. The second run also had a smooth and strong approach.”

According to the judging of MSC solo runs, dropping even one wheel into the dirt counts as a course out, and I knew my second run wasn’t as good as the first. In the finals, you can see my number just below the podium line, by half a point! Damn! Fourth out of twenty-three entrants isn’t a bad result for a first time out, and rather good for what is a close-to-stock R32 Skyline! It was still a lot of fun though, and the most fun I’ve ever had as a competitor.

Must try harder next time…

Yeah, I was beaten by a girl. This place is awesome!

For Super Class, click here. Yamashita’s white SR20DET Levin coupe is one of the biggest animals I’ve ever seen. It is ridiculously fast, and I’d really like to go for a ride in it sometime to see how he handles it. He wasn’t even using the nitrous tanks that day. Also, check out Sexy Knights Suzuki’s flat-black FC with the old-school RE Amemiya Porsche 928-style front end.

For Triple Class, click here. The winners were Team Fazz with Shunichi Tomikuda in the third car. It was some of the cleanest triple I’ve ever seen, and Tomikuda is a maniac.

The next comp I’ll be entering is D1 Street Legal Central at Honjo Circuit, but I don’t really fancy my chances in that. There’s only one class, and I’ll be up against everybody. Still going to give it a red-hot go though, as any competition experience in Japan is something worth doing.

Andy from Powervehicles will be there too with his JZX100, so we’ll see how he and his unintelligible accent do there as well.

    Haha, awesome indeed. There is no other place like Japan eh? Well this is your first event though, could always improve with more practice. Also good luck on your D1SL comp, I’m sure that is gonna be a lot tougher than MSC.

    I intend to!

    @Peter Horniak & Muzaffar
    The problem is that Nikko is the track I have the most experience at. Maze will be interesting…

    @MeZ
    I don’t know…D1 is pretty straight forward if you want some help.
    I’ve spoken to the guys who run the media stuff there before, and they seem quite happy to help out.

    @Rob_180SX
    Thanks man!

    @Isidro
    It’s a big club though…

    @Benson
    Winning, that’s what he’s doing. He still has his NA red hatch for practice though.

  • Benson says:

    well i’m glad that he’s winning again. and i’m glad that you’re getting pretty good at drifting… now if only somebody would post some videos up!

  • Donnie says:

    Good stuff man! They are bringing MSC here Jul 19th. I was wondering, the speed they clocked, was that entry speed or exit speed and was it in drift, or just the initial or exit?

  • kOOpA says:

    that’s amazing man, keep with it!
