SAWDUST: Crash evidence at Tsukuba

Before you click on the “read the rest” link just below this text, take a second to think of what subject the next photos might be about.
A patch of sawdust usually means spilled oil, but have another look at where it is.

If you’ve just said “Oooooh” in your head, that’s exactly what I thought when I came across this FD RX-7 sitting just inside the gates at Tsukuba Circuit.
The driver was unlucky enough to hit the pit-in wall perfectly square on, in what was probably a case of either very late braking or very early acceleration around Tsukuba’s high-speed final corner.
Either way, the car oversteered and washed out towards the inside of the track before colliding with the barrier.

You can even see the imprint of the tread pattern of the tyres covering the end of the barrier in the door’s metal. The driver seemed to be OK, and was talking on his mobile phone next to the car when I first saw it.

Never lose respect of what you’re doing behind the wheel.
